These keys are played by depressing each one which are set in such a manner that is required for playing the twelve notes that is found in Western music scale. There are some longer keys and some shorter ones which repeat after each octave. On depressing a key in a piano sound is produced either mechanically or electronically as the case may be. The sound is produced electronically in an electronic keyboard. A synthesizer also has a keyboard of the same pattern as on a piano. The traces of musical keyboard layout traces back to the first century with lot of changes from then on but without much change in the basic layout.
