Why do we go off water as adults

As children, many of us are extolled about the virtues and value of drinking Water, we are told that not only does it taste great, but it is really important for us to drink lots of water to help us grow strong and healthy. If we know these facts at the age of 6 – 7 why is it that many of us as we get older gradually drink less water? We know how good it is for us to drink water, we know how good we feel when we drink decent amounts of water and yet we shy away from drinking water, preferring alcohol in many cases instead.
