Start Local With Magazine Writing
if you’re a new magazine writer you need to start local to build your magazine writing career. “Local” means with your local magazines. As you build your writing clips, and are published in more magazines, you will work your way up to national publications over a year or two. Yes this can take time, however is the only way to build a magazine writing career. Of course you can send query letters to national publications, but until you have clips — that is writing credits from lower-ranked magazines, — top publications will rarely consider you. This shouldn’t depress you, in fact it should inspire you to keep writing, and to keep building your credits.
